Trip to Kedarnath and Badrinath June 2012 Part 1



Day 1 -30th may - At 8.00 pm reached Mumbai central and Catch Golden temple 12903  at  21.25 pm . thre Train was on time .

Day 2 - 31st May -  Reached  Ghaziabad at 19.50 pm . We have to wait at station to Catch Mussorie express 14041 at 23.00pm . The train was on time .

Day 3 - 1st June - Reached  Haridwar 6.00 am . Our Indica was ready which we have booked previously with Nandataxi , The driver name was Arvind . We started our drive at 7.00 am . The climate was hot on that day .We reached Devprayag at 12.00 pm .Devprayag is 70 km from Rishikesh. Devprayag has an average elevation of 830 metres (2,723 feet).

 About Devprayag -  It is one of the five sacred confluences in the hills and is an important place of pilgrimage for devout Hindus .Devaprayaga" means "Godly Confluence" in Sanskrit. As per Hindu Scriptures, Devaprayaga is the sacred event of merging two heavenly rivers, Alakananda and Bhagirathi, to form the holy Ganges.The Alaknanda rises at the confluence and feet of the Satopanth and Bhagirath Kharak glaciers in Uttarakhand. The headwaters of the Bhagirathi are formed at Gaumukh, at the foot of the Gangotri glacier and Khatling glaciers in the Garhwal Himalaya. These two sacred rivers join to form the Ganges (Ganga) in Devprayag.

  It was getting hotter by the after noon , we have to switch the AC of the car , My daughter started getting altitude sickness , she was vomitting . so we decided to take halt at GVMN Rudraprayag rest house for 2 hours . we had lunch at the rest house and had a good 1 hr nap at the room .

About Rudraprayaga -Rudraprayag is one of the Panch Prayag (five confluences) of Alaknanda River, the point of confluence of rivers Alaknanda and Mandakini. Alaknanda then proceeds towards Devaprayag where it joins with Bhagirathi river to form the river Ganges. Kedarnath, a Hindu holy town is located 86 km from Rudraprayag.
Rudraprayag is also known for its infamous man-eating leopard (Leopard of Rudraprayag) which is reputed to have killed over 125 people , hunted by Jimm Corbett.
The road distance from Rishikesh to Rudraprayag is 141 km (88 mi) via Devprayag and Srinagar.
Rudraprayag is named after Lord Shiva and temple of lord Rudranath is situated at the confluence of Alaknand and Mandakini. According to mythology Narda Muni worshiped god Shiva here to learn music from him. The god then teach Music in his form of Rudra (Lord of Music) to Narad Muni. There is rock where it is said that Narad did his worship now this rock is know as Narad Shila.

At 4.00 pm we started form Rudraprayag . we reached Sayalsar at 5.45 pm . Had the tea at Salyasar tourist hut , it was a very nice place , 

About Sayalsaur -It is a small village in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand State. The river Mandakini flows through this area.This is a very beautiful place, calm and serene. Pilgrims to Kedarnath and Badrinath can stay here, while going or coming back and relax after a journey through the ghat roads.Syalsaur is at a distance of about 160 Km from Haridwar. It is situted in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and is about 20 Km from Rudraprayag
