Day 8 5/11/11 Today we have kept for local sightseeing and market . first we started with Shankaracharya temple The Shankaracharya temple is situated in the Srinagar district on the hill known as Takht-e-Suleiman. It is housed at a height of 1100 ft. above surface level of the main city on the hill. It is believed that Raja Gopadatya got the temple constructed in 371 BC, giving it the name of Gopadri. The great philosopher Shankaracharya is supposed to have stayed here when he visited Kashmir to revive Sanatan Dharma. This incident, which took place ten centuries ago, led to the renaming of the temple as the Shankracharya temple. The Shankracharya Mandir of Kashmir, India is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is thought to be the oldest shrine in the Kashmir valley. The temple, as it stands today, has undergone many repairs throughout its life. The first repair is supposed to have been done under the rule of Lalitaditya. Day -7  04/11/11 Taday decided for Gulamrg . Gulmarg also know as "meadow of flowers" is at an altitude of 2,730 meters above sea level, 52 kms north-west of Srinagar. The mountain meadow, to which the name properly belongs, is about two miles long, in places half a mile broad, and is somewhat crescent shaped. All around are snow capped mountains, and on a clear day you see all the way to Nanga Parbat in one direction and Srinagar in another, the scenery and flowers are lovely. In natural advantages it is immensely superior to other Himalayan hill-stations. Sharp at 9.00 am started , today it was raining and climate was also very cold . Had the breakfast enroute at the restaurant . Reached Tangmarg at 11.00am . Rented the winterclothings and gumboot . and started the journey . soon the snow fall started , and as we reached higher , snowfall increased , and just before 3km from gulmarg , the road was closed due to snowfall . our Travera could not move on the snow . we w

Day -6 03/11/11 Today decided to visit Sonamrg . Our Travera was ready by 8.30 am . Soon we were on road to Sonamarg Sonmarg or Sonamarg is situated at 87 km from Srinagar  . Its at an altitude of 3,000 metres above sea level . The drive to Sonamarg is though yet another spectacular facet of country side in Kashmir, this time its the Sindh nallah. The Sindh nallah is the largest tributary of the Indus river in the valley of Kashmir. It is upwards of sixty miles long, and valley and deep rock-girt gorge to open grassy meadow land and village-dotted slopes.  on the way to sonamrg   had the breakfast at this restaurant  Reached the sonmarg at 11.00am .  sonamarg   sonmarg   sonamarg   sonmarg  Sumos were standing there to take us to snowpoint . Negotiated with a summo wala for Rs-5000.00 for whole sumo along with winter cloths and gumboots for 9 people . But to our badluck , after 30 min drive , the road was closed due to some accident

Day - 5 02/11/11 In the morning had the breakfast at Hotel Brown itself . Booked the Travera for drop to Srinagar for Rs-2000.00 , On the way visited the bat factory , On the way visited Avantipore ruin .Its is about 30 km from Srinagar on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Its an ancient capital city of Avantipora founded by Rajaj Avantivarman.Its also famous for its two imposing temples, now in ruins, built by him. The temple was constructed by Lalitaditya , the Brahmin emperor of Kashmir, and King Awantivarman .This is an historic temple built by Awanti Warman from whom the place got its name as Awantipora. The place is usually misrecognized by the people saying Pandavas place because the material used in building this place is usually panadava stones. That's why people misrecognize it. But all its history is written inside it. It is said that this temple has gone almost 20 feet deep under the earth and that only its top side is visible. One of these temple

kashmir trip 2011 part 3 Pahalgam Betaab vellay, chandanwari , Aru vellay

Day -4 01/11/11 Today decided to do the local trip , booked the same Innova for full day for Rs-2800.00 . we had the breakfast at the hotel itself and started by 10.30 am . our first destination was Betaab vellay , Reached by 10.50 am . we had to pay entry charges of Rs-10.00 per person . Betaab Valley is the place where they shot the famous scenes from movie Betaab .Its just 7kms from Pahalgam on Chandanwari Road .It derives its name from Sunny Deol’s ( Action Hero of Hindi Cinema and son of another veteran Dharmendra )Movie BETAAB which was shot extensively in this area . The producer of the movie had also built two Huts for the Movie and stayed in the area for about 2 months to shoot . Those who saw the movie can also recall the songs 1 Jab Hum Jawan Honge ,Jaane Kahan Honge 2 Dekho Maine Dekha Hai Yeh Ek Sapna,Phoolon Ke Shehar Me Ho Ghar Apna Both the songs were shot in this valley and the song Dekho Maine Dekha hai was shot actually in the Hut built by the producer of the
