kashmir trip 2011 part 6 Day visit to Gulmarg

Day -7  04/11/11

Taday decided for Gulamrg .

Gulmarg also know as "meadow of flowers" is at an altitude of 2,730 meters above sea level, 52 kms north-west of Srinagar. The mountain meadow, to which the name properly belongs, is about two miles long, in places half a mile broad, and is somewhat crescent shaped. All around are snow capped mountains, and on a clear day you see all the way to Nanga Parbat in one direction and Srinagar in another, the scenery and flowers are lovely. In natural advantages it is immensely superior to other Himalayan hill-stations.

Sharp at 9.00 am started , today it was raining and climate was also very cold . Had the breakfast enroute at the restaurant . Reached Tangmarg at 11.00am . Rented the winterclothings and gumboot . and started the journey . soon the snow fall started , and as we reached higher , snowfall increased , and just before 3km from gulmarg , the road was closed due to snowfall . our Travera could not move on the snow . we waited there for another 2 hrs in a hope that snowfall will stop and we can proceed further , but it didnot stopped and we had to returned back . we came to know that gondala was also closed .but we could enjoy the snow everywhere .
